On a hot and muggy Friday and Saturday, the 10U Whitnall Rage girls spent the day playing softball. On Friday, they struggled to find a rhythm and found themselves on the wrong end of three games against pretty good competition. Saturday, the girls came out renewed and jumped out of the gate winning their first two
games in single-elimination play and nearly pulled off the trifecta before falling a bit short in the Silver bracket championship, 13-11.
Game one saw them top the West Allis Wolves 10-5 that set up a matchup with the 10U Whitnall Falcon club. The Rage prevailed in that contest 16-12 in the first ever meeting between the two teams. In the finale against Oak Creek, the girls found themselves down 10-2 in the top of the 5th before rallying to tie the game 10-10 with an 8-run outburst in that fifth frame. Oak Creek tacked on 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th to pull ahead 13-10. After a scoreless 6th inning, Whitnall would push one run across and had the tying run at the plate. A close play at first ended the game, but the girls their first taste of hardware in the 2014 season. We're very proud of this young group. The battled the heat, some adversity, and a shorthanded roster. They really grew as a team this weekend.
