The Whitnall Rage progarm represented well this past weekend at the Infinity Fields complex in Waukesha. Our 14U group walked away with a tourney championship, while the 10U and 18U teams both reached the consolation finals before coming up on the losing end in those games.
Starting with the youngest group first, our 10U team - a first year program for us - went 2-3 on the weekend with victories over the Waukesha Blazers (pool play) and Merton Fillies (consolation bracket) before finally falling to the Pride of the Midwest program 15-8 in the consolation championship. The game was closer than the final score as the pride took advantage of some late miscues to stretch their lead before time expired. The day prior the Rage girls lost to the Pride 12-0 so the moral victory of being down and coming back to take a lead in the game 8-6 was exciting. The switches are coming on one by one in the girls and each game they are improving.
The 18U group was in their first tourney action of the season, and their first game action since the high school season ended. They were a little rusty out of the gate but once they shook that off they played pretty well. They finished the weekend 2-2 and most importantly came back from a 5-0 deficit in their last at-bat of their final game to score 5 runs and force extra innings. They then scored two in the next frame for the victory.
The 14U group stumbled out of the gate too dropping a 5-0 game to the Darien Fuzion before then rolling off 4 straight wins - including one over the #1 seeded Fuzion club in the semi-finals. The young 14s performed well during the bracket period outscoring their opponents 19-5 over the three game stretch. In the championship game, two quick runs for the New Berlin Magic Red club in the first inning held up for 4 innings before the Rage girls got their bats on track. They put up 5 in the 4th and tacked on an insurance run in the 5th to win going away 6-2. The win pushed the 14's record to 15-4 on the season.
The 10U and 14U girls are in action next at the New Berlin Magic tournament the last weekend of the month. Our 18's play in an exposure tournament this weekend in Sussex. Good luck to all the teams in their league play over the next couple of weeks!
